Background
Background

Having been awarded the 2017 IAAF World Championships in Athletics, we are now in the process of creating the organisation to deliver what will be a superb event for London and for athletics globally. In the next three years Britain will demonstrate unprecedented expertise in hosting the world’s major track and field events. The UK will host the 2012 Olympic Games, 2013 European Team Championships and 2014 Commonwealth Games. That experience will underpin London 2017, giving athletes the best possible opportunity to break world records in our Olympic Stadium.

We are now seeking two Non-Executive Directors to support the greatest-ever World Championships for the global athletics family. London is ready to break records; on the track and in the field of the iconic Olympic stadium, and in the commercial and broadcast arena too.

Key Responsibilities
  • To attend 4-6 formal Board meetings a year, as well as other ad hoc meetings and to sit on Board Sub-Committees as required.
  • To Chair the Audit Committee.
  • To act as a consultant to and mentor for the executive Board members, in so far as this does not compromise the independence of the NED.
  • To ensure that the organisation has a robust, workable and viable operational strategy, including detailed financial plans.
  • To monitor the operational performance of the organisation and the executive management.

Skills & Experience Required

The successful person will be a proven senior business leader at board level and have experience of running organisations where there are political interests.
  • Evidence of success in your chosen career.
  • Proven advisory/committee experience at a senior level and/or senior leadership experience at board level.
  • Good all round business acumen with proven experience, skills and knowledge of the requirements to lead a successful business.
  • Proven experience of public life, and of running organisations where there are political interests.
  • Experience in successfully setting and implementing strategy for an organisation of a similar scale and complexity.
  • Excellent communication, relationship and networking skills, able to represent London 2017 to all our stakeholders.
  • Good knowledge of Corporate Governance and Board responsibilities, accustomed to a high level of accountability.
